CamWorld Turns Eight
Eight years ago today, on June 11, 1997 I posted my first weblog entry. Had I known back then that I was embarking on a journey that would shape my life, my career and who I am as a person I think I would have run away screaming and hidden under a rock for a while.
Instead, I chose to a path unknown to most. Even way back in 1997 I knew there was something very powerful about what I and a few others were doing. The web in those days was mostly an information tool and I contributed what I could. What began as a web site designed to support a college class I was teaching at the time quickly became a resource for other web designers, checking in every day or so to see what new links I had put up. And thus CamWorld was born.
Blogs have since come a long way and I am proud to have been one of the first. Starting with my 1999 essay that helped define the concept and format, I have watched as blogs were at first laughed at and scorned by media professionals, then slowly accepted -- and today are almost a mandatory part of any news and media property.
I don't know what my future holds, but I can be sure of one thing: blogs and blogging will continue to be a part of it for an undetermined amount of time. Here's to another eight years.

The birthday of RasterWeb! as a 'weblog' site is in August, and as I've mentioned before, Scripting News and CamWorld are probably the two sites I remember influencing me back in 1997 that are still around today.
Isn't it amazing to see the life changes we've gone through since then, as well as the way the web has changed?
Here's to another 8 years indeed!

Wow...congrats! Since 1997? Good Christ, I got my first computer that year and logged on to my first website; can't remember now what it was...Netscape splash screen?

Congrats! You got me started blogging, reading Slashdot, even taking Linux for a spin. Hope to be telling you this again in 2013!

Hi,
If you by chance have any (spare) free tickets to any shows/galleries within the New York area please send me an email letting me know as I would love to attend. Thank you in advance.

Hail Fair Fellow famously met and may this cheering guide the rest of your ambitions through tunnel and trial, this is a great accomplishment, and/but I now wonder what you think the future of blogging may be.
